The product integration was heralded as the next big thing, people like me jumped on the bandwagon full of hope for the future… which never came.īecause the product stagnated. But then, it started to become clear that this was becoming similar to when Microsoft made Yammer part of the Office 365 suite. But it was designed to be enough, that the average Microsoft 365 user (Office 365 back then) wouldn’t need to look for an external solution.įor a time, things were great. It was never intended to compete with Trello and its clones, never offer the same level of functionality. Microsoft unveiled Planner as an ad-hoc group-based task management tool for the new age. Agile was starting to emerge as a hero, and products such as Trello and Asana were starting to take the spotlight. The world was turning away from the “waterfall” view of managing projects. Microsoft Project was too expensive and difficult to use properly without training, Project Online was providing a cloud alternative but still provided the same challenges and lists in SharePoint had stagnated. We needed a new task management system back then. I’ve been working with Microsoft Planner for many years, since it was originally revealed to the MVP community as “Project Highlander” around 2016.

If y ou’re not familiar with Planner yet, then please note that you will need a license to use the product. Check here for more options to enable Planner in T o-Do. Hit Show List and your Assigned to Me list will appear, and your tasks will start to sync. If you have tasks assigned to you in Planner, then next time you open To-Do you’ll see an alert asking you if you want to “Track tasks assigned to you in Planner”. And if you’re a firm fan of My Day then you’ll also find them popping up in Suggestions.Įnable the integration in To-Do We know, we know, you probably can’t wait to get started. If the due dates don’t fit in with your work schedule, then you can change them, and it'll also sync back to Planner. This means that you get a view of everything coming up today, tomorrow, or for the rest of the week. You won’t just find your tasks in the Assigned t o Me list-if you have a due date set then they’ll also show up in your Planned list. Add your Planner tasks to My Day Get a view of everything you need to accomplish If the task is a bit overwhelming, you can break it down into smaller s teps in To-Do and it’ll also sync to Planner’s Checklist. And if you want to get more context or see the comments and file attachments, you can go into your detail ed view and select “Open in Planner” to see all the finer details. Want to work on one of these tasks today? You can add it to My Day, along with tasks from other lists in To-Do, giving you a complete overview of what you’ll be ticking off today. Planner tasks that have been assigned to you will show up in a special Assigned to Me list. Instead of constantly switching contexts to keep up with what you must do next, turn on the Planner integration (and the Flagged email integration, for that matter) and you’ll see all your project tasks fitting neatly in with the rest of your tasks in To-Do.
